In Ajmer Sharif, the tradition of Niyaz is followed with deep love, faith, and spiritual devotion throughout the 12 Islamic months. Devotees offer food and prayers at homes, mosques, and especially at the Dargah of Khwaja Garib Nawaz, seeking blessings, peace, and barakah.
Each month has its own significance in Islam, and Niyaz is offered accordingly with dua and devotion.
1. Niyaz of Moharam Sharif
Month of mourning and remembrance of Imam Hussain (AS) and the Battle of Karbala. Niyaz like dal chawal, roti, tea, and sherbat is distributed at Dargah Sharif and in homes.
2. Niyaz of Safar
A month of prayers for protection and health. Devotees offer niyaz with dua for peace and safety for their families.
3. Niyaz of Rabi’ al-Awwal
The blessed birth month of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Streets near the Dargah are decorated, naats are recited, and sweets are distributed with joy.
4. Niyaz of Rabi’ al-Thani (Gyarvi Shareef)
This month is dedicated to Ghaus-e-Azam Abdul Qadir Gilani (RA). Special niyaz and dua are offered on 11th Rabi’ us-Sani.
5. Niyaz of Jumada al-Awwal
Families prepare and distribute niyaz to seek blessings and peace in their homes.
6. Niyaz of Jumada al-Thani
This is the birth month of Bibi Fatima Zahra (RA). Niyaz is offered with duas for peace and family well-being.
7. Niyaz of Rajab al-Murajjab
A sacred month of forgiveness and blessings. On the 27th of Rajab, Isra and Mi’raj is observed with special prayers and niyaz at Dargah Sharif.
8. Niyaz of Sha’ban al-Mu’azzam
The month of forgiveness and Shab-e-Baraat. People light candles, make dua, and distribute sweet niyaz like halwa.
9. Niyaz of Ramzan ul Mubarak
The most blessed month of fasting, mercy, and forgiveness. Sehri and Iftar niyaz are arranged daily at Dargah Sharif and in homes for devotees and travelers.
10. Niyaz of Shawwal al-Mukarram
Month of Eid-ul-Fitr. Families share sweets and niyaz in celebration and thanksgiving.
11. Niyaz of Dhul-Qa’dah
A sacred month observed with quiet devotion, prayers, and simple niyaz.
12. Niyaz of Dhul-Hijjah
Month of Hajj and Eid-ul-Adha. Qurbani meat and niyaz are distributed among people with love and respect.
